Josh
Wilson and Charles Brown were the local undertakers and furniture dealers,
located in Virginia City. They had a cemetery located within the Silver
Terrace Cemeteries. They also used a section across from Wilson and Brown,
called, as is the entire site, Silver Terrace.
In
1877 the local paper reported that their cemetery, “contained many graves
surrounded with iron fence and handsome stone walls. Some of the lots have
handsome flights of cut stone steps leading up to them, they being on terraces.
This cemetery covers a great deal of ground and is well laid out, but much work
must yet be done on it to put it in perfect order.”
Some
things have not changed. Today, Wilson and Brown is one of the most poorly
maintained and protected sites in the Silver Terrace cemeteries.
